Do you have ABS on your '08 Road King? I can go to three different dealers and get three different answers on just about anything regarding gear changes on my '08 FLHR.
I don't have ABS on mine.
Your right about getting different answers from dealers. I went to three different dealers for a quote on something else and got two completely different answers. That's why I just got the service manual.
I also just today finished installing the Harley #56176-08, 2" pull back bars on my 08 Ultra. I ordered the bars from Sirdykes for $122.00 but waited almost five weeks for them.
I don't have ABS, Dealer also told me $1600.00 range because of the extras I would need and 4 hours for them to do it, I did it going slow in two mornings and didn't have to replace anything but the bars.
I did cut the plugs off of both side switch controls to run the wires internal and then solder and heat shrink. Extra work but made for a very clean finished look.
One thing I found is these bars are a thicker wall tubing by .060 than the stock bars. I run the Heat demon internal grip heaters and had to ream the throttle side bar to get the heating element and TBW assy in it.
I haven't riden it yet but the feel is already much better.
I took step by step pics and was going to start a post tonight but left the drive at home. pictures tomorrow.
I have a 08 FLHRC and hate the stock handlebars. I want to change to 12.5" chubby ape hangers. I've talked to 3 different dealers and got prices from $725 to $1800. The problem seems to be the fly by wire throttle, everyone seems to have a different view of the amount of work required. Has anyone changed out their bars? Has anyone used the 09 Heritage bars on their RK? I'm looking for help!
