I just got my o4 fxd back a week ago Its awsome! I blew my 88 and did the 103 swap at the dealership. I bored my cyilinders. I was told it would be better by my shops service manager, the mechanics in the shop and the performance consutant. I work for the dealership and I do trust them. the only thing about it is I had 30k on my bike with a silver motor so it still looks dingy but thats ok cause it looks like a sleeper. You can powdercoat but it will take longer and cost more. Good luck with the build your gonna love the upgrade!
A little off subject - but is the SE pro 103 kit as powerful as their dyno says?
I was thinking about going this route so I don't have to bore my cases.
What about fuel requirements?
A competent machinist at the factory or local should have no problem doing the bore. I say it's just a matter if you want you take off jugs or not. You could get a bad one from the factory, but you should know that before the warranty is up.
I think you'll like this build. I really like mine.
I upgraded last spring to 103, 10:5-1, se 103+ heads, 257 cams, sert, se slip ons, It pushes 98-99hp, 105lbs tq, by the dealers dyno, it goes.........BUT when I do it again, this time I will port/polish the heads, they are wrinkle painted in the chamber and ports from hd, I would also choose different cams, these dont run out of breath, but the power band is a little to high. The bike does go, but I was expecting more for the money...
see my sig for my mods....YES you can have them bored and be just as good as new ones. Ask if the machine shop is using a torque plate. If not then i would not sue them. EVERY tuner/DYNO will get different numbers while you can boost about big numbers i have ATE big numbers up. I just moved to pensacola but while in jacksonville a friend rode a SG with 102hp/108tq and I rapped him and my lil ole bike is still in the 80's lol. But to answer your question yes you can bore them and be just as good.. Good luck and im sure youll love the new power ITS awsome.......
