Yup. Friends tell me it's the dirt/bugs in the microfiber towel that does the scratching. Using one with water (lots) first will take the biggest part off. Use another clean towel to finish off. Generally, a better quality microfiber towel will do better for the final wipe than the terrycloth-like cheaper ones.

It was mentioned earlier and I agree, if it is heavily soiled, I will use water before the Plexus cleaner

Good advise.

Found Plexas couple years ago - THIS STUFF REALLY WORKS. I would not use anything other than warm water. I buy three cans at a time - one can last lasts me like six months.

Good idea to soak the bugs with a warm/soaked washcloth or even put it in the shower if detachable like on the RK. Spray and soak it... let it sit 5 or 10 min then they wipe right off. Sometimes the bugs are plastered on really heavy and this avoids having to scrub them off.

Lemon Pledge and Clean MicroFiber Cloths. Works great and bugs wont stick to the windshield, paint, chrome or any other parts, and will be removed easily. try it.

Mix one part Himalayan goat urine to three parts 3in1 Oil and scrub vigorously with a water soaked calico house cat.
Really just wash with soap and water and dry with a soft cloth. When on the road HD bug remover followed by detail spray works just fine. I've even used hand soap on a hotel wash cloth and have yet to scratch a windshield.

Read somewhere that it's important to wipe/scrub in and down only and not in circles or across to avoid the swirls.
Also, check out Griot's Garage website for info and products for detailing/cleaning. I've ordered some stuff and am very pleased. I'm not associated with them by the way!

Like the other posters, +1 on softening and removing the bugs and grit before scrubbing.
