Default Ultra Transmission

Since the weather has been so great the last few days I have finally put some miles on my 2000 Ultra. The question I have is do I have a problem with the transmission? I seem to be hitting a false neutral between 2nd and 3rd gears. Doesn't matter if I am up shifting or down shifting. The trans fluid just was changed. Do I need to adjust the linkage maybe? Any input would be a help. Thanks

This is a common problem with all Harleys. Your neutral light will come on when you are between gears sometimes. I'm not sure there is a fix other than getting use to it. You will know when you are in first and clicking up into neutral with a little experience.

Thanks Terry. My problem is that I am use to my trans on my 2005 Fatboy, shifts like butter and very very rare mis-shifts. I new the 2000 Ultra trans was different and not meant for hot roddin!

Over filling the transmission can make neutral hard to find. I don't know if this could be related to the problem you're having, just something I've learned over the course of time.

Somthing to check is the arm on the trans that the link rod goes to. See if you can pull it in and out on the shaft. I had to replace mine, teeth were gone at 40,000 miles. I was missing shifts and the shift rod ate a groove in the inner primary. It wont fall off on the road because the inner primary is so close it keeps it from falling off. In turn if the arm is worn out the inner primary does have to come off to replace it.
