I am in Miramar but the group spans the whole state from Jaxville to Miami over to the pan handle, we do short 200 milers or the longer 400 - 500 milers for lunch. Then some long hauls to Dragon, Ocala etc etc, keep an eye on members meeting members section. Very active riding group here year round, well, usually we will delay for Cat one or higher hurricanes. PM sent with some info.
I have a brand new 09 EGC. I have only driven it home from the dealer. It has 49 miles on it. I am going over this bike just like you said, from wheel to wheel and everything in-between. There is nothing like riding a clean and shiny bike. Also, it runs better and faster.
I love riding and it is fun, but I also love keeping her clean. I like my women clean and I like her to be clean.

Wash and dry guy here. i like the words of a wise man who said, "i bought it to ride, not to rub." That's an excuse for me because i really like a super clean bike, but i think i'm just too lazy to do it.
Ditto
I love a clean, sparkling bike but as much as i ride it's just not practical. I wish I had the time to do that but I just don't. So my bike is a little dirty most of the time but I do try to keep it decent looking. It bothers me to have it look like $*&# so i do my best to keep after it. A good wash with soapy water and sheepskin mit, dry it with a chamois and that's it. Maybe wax it a couple times a year. I try to wash it at least every other week.
If you have the time and enjoy detailing it I say that's great, enjoy it and have fun.
