Zumo 550 Update
Then I ordered a special installation kit from cyclegadgets.com. I chose the one that allows hook up through the AUX plug.
I also installed the whole kit, after using some of your advice on removing the upper fairing. It was a breeze!! Put socks on outboard lights and towel on the front fender, got out my HD Tool Kit and went to work.
Took me about 1 hour to take the fairing off, hook up the Zumo Ram Mount and route the wires from cyclegadgets .com. Only problem I had was stupidly crossing the cigarette lighter piggy back connectors. This meant no power went to the Garmin XM antenna. Troubleshooting, I tried pushing in the lighter and noticed it did not get hot. Then looked at the power wires and switched them. Lighter kicked in an Zumo beeped!!!
I had activated XM and it downloaded just fine. Also worked fine in MP3 mode. Appears the only feature I lack is being able to use the Bluetooth connection and talk on my cell through my Ultra's normal HD headset.
I may add the bluetooth adapter and headset to my modular Nolan helmet and just let it connect to my cell phone. I can then put a HD adapter on the Nolan cable and use it through the Ultra's sound system as well
The Garmin 550 expense was worthwhile to me as I have combined my XM radio (previously a Delphi unit), my IPOD music, and added the GPS feature all in one piece of equipment on the left clutch mounting bracket I also used the Garmin in my car yesterday with the auto mount and cigarette lighter power cord. Worked great and sound of directions routed through the small speaker in the mount.
I'll let everybody know how it works in the coming months in various operating conditions. For now, I'm a happy camper.

Thanks for mentioning cyclegadgets as a source for hook-up kits. Santa brought me a Zumo 450 and I was wondering the best way to connect to the Aux plug. I may just wait for the new HD Zumo, fairing mount to be available in January, to see how it will work before making a decision.
Good luck. The HD fairing version sounds interesting as well, but not if I can't move it to any of the other vehicles I own for the GPS feature
I like the caps on your unit - seem to match the 105th paint scheme well!

I'm XM illiterate. Do you need an account of some sort for XM radio? A monthly bill? I haven't messed with this feature of my 550 but do have all mp3's on an SD card. The XM's starting to sound interesting.

My 550 does connect with my phone but I don't have an adapter (???). Right now I'm using earbuds but would like to get away from them.
Could use a little hand-holding in this new area for me. Tkx in advance!
