Go for it. While it's in the shop get a set of Lyndall brake pads. No more dust!!!! I will take but a few miles to seat them in and you'll be glad you did. Yes they are a little pricey,but NO DUST
No it is simple though. First remove the rotors. Using a palm sander start with 400 grit sand paper and sand enough to completely smooth the rotors, then move to 600 grit then 1200 grit and finally 2000 grit. The get a drill and attach a four inch sewn polishing wheel (Home Depot)to the drill using a long bolt, nut and washers making the polishing wheel snug on the bolt. Then using a quality polishing agent such as Glitz buff the rotors to a chrome like shine. It sounds time consuming but it only took about 2 hours to do both rotors. Then about every six months clean the wheels with Brasso or similer product and they will look great for years. And while I had the front wheel off I removed the front fender and also polished my lower forks the same as above. Both turned out great. Hope this helps.
