Default temp sensor

I have a 2005 Road King Custom with a stage one kit.. I've only had it for two months and less than 600 miles. It stalled on me yesterday on the fwy. The dealer told me they needed to replace the temp sensor switch. Has anyone had this happen to them? Any info re the subject would be appreciated... Such as what was likely reason for the problem? What other things should I watch for including any related possible damage. Thanks.

Sounds like a freak thing. These touring bikes are all the same drivetrain wise, so it doesn't matter what you ride. I have had my 2004 Ultra since August and after 1800 miles, I have had no problems so far. I am expecting that your problem is very isolated. These machines are getting more and more complex through the years and it stands to reason that a small number if small parts will fail from time to time. Have the dealer pick it up and get it running for you and you should be good to go. They will check out the bike completely at the 1000 miles service.

Ride on!

I have a 2005 FLTRI, it has stalled on me several times. It is back at the dealer right now, they are trying to figure out why it doesn't run. The bike had 30 miles on it and it quit, they took it back and replaced a sensor, don't know which one but it ran for another 20 miles and quit again. this is starting to scare me.

The temp sensor gives information to the ecm so that the ecm can then make a decision on timing fuel and various other things like Idle speed . When it goes out ( which can happen) the ecm is blind so to speak. It doesn't know if the engine is hot / cold or anyplace inbetween. It isn't a very common thing like a speed sensor on the trans, but they do go bad.
