The big brackets on my 06 faring kept breaking. Finally I reinforced my broken brackets by welding them. They worked great, except the vibration then went to the next weakest point, which was the point where the inner faring attaches, and that broke. Now I understand this breaking bracket thing is a huge problem with certain models.
The dealer says when I get the inner faring replaced, I should also put the stock flimsy ones back on. That way when there is another break, which there will be, it will be the brackets and not the inner faring. I have been to 2 different dealers, and they both have trash cans full of these broken inferior brackets.
There should be some way to limit the vibration in the first place. HD mechanic also says factory wouldn't admit there was a problem, just did what they always do, changed the design on the 2009 models.
Any suggestions, other than the stock one of welding reinforcement, or buying I beams from a local bridge builder.
