If you really want to use a polish use a chrome polish, not a clearcoat polish. Be prepared to clean up white residue. A good alternative is using lemon pledge. Works great. I do not wash the scoot, and use that after riding in the rain, and had an easy time cleaning up the scoot.
I use Mother's Chrome Polish it takes out all off the small "dots" in the chrome. I use a order to clean the bike.
Wash (if needed)
Fully dry
Condition leather seat (brown bottle forgot name)
Clean tires (Armor all)
Polish all chrome and black rubber (Mothers Chrome)
Wax all painted parts (turtle wax)
Wipe down whole bike (not seat) with Pledge.
I carry a spray bottle of "car wash" with me... each time it rains, I spray the bike down, and keep riding...I'll stop to re-apply the car wash, if needed, and once it's "clean enough" I find a deep puddle and use that as a power rinse.
I also carry "soap on a rope" so I usually get the bike washed, a shower, and clean my clothes all at the same time....
of course, my wife say's I "ain't right in the head".... but that's a whole 'nother story
