I use the Royal Purple 75-140 synthetic gear oil in the tranny. I just like the name better. Sounds regal

Still waiting for an answer.

I think they are giving people a choice. The 20-50 oil is a multifunction oil and formulated for all three holes.

You may have read this:
http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/mcv.aspx

But if some people like to use gear oil in their trans, they give you that choice. In fact they give you 3 choices of gear oil for your trans.

I looked up the recommended oil for my motorcycle.
http://www.amsoil.com/products/stree...oil_chart.aspx

They are listed as Best...Secondary....Alternate

I choose Best because I happen to believe that the Amsoil engineers may know what they are talking about. They didn't recommend another product in their line as best, they recommended the MCV oil in all three holes. What am I missing here?

Just wanted to jump on the bandwagon and beat the horse some more. I converted to AMSOIL 20W50 in the Primary and Engine, but did select the severe gear 75W140 for the tranny. My 2000 Deuce 5spd tranny shifted like a 1950s 2 ton truck before converting to the AMSOIL. My shifts are so smooth now and it did not affect my fuel milage. It also reduced the overall mechanical noise associated with the tranny, primary, and cam chains. I do believe that there are other brands of oil that could do the same, but my research led me to select AMSOIL and I would not use any others. When I change out the oil it feels like I'm throwing away perfectly good oil because it is so clean. I don't think you'll regret your choice.
