Default Paint Cost

I have been contemplating getting my Electra Glide Classic painted. It is a Firefighter bike, and those of you that have them know that the "fire engine red" is more like "ketchup-orangish red."
What are some rough estimates you would say to paint my outer and inner fairings, front and rear fenders, tank and a couple small engine covers? No need to paint the trunk as that is never used. Just rough nubers for either shiney black or maybe "bright red".

So that is for a high quality bright color red? How much would it cost to add metalflake to make it glisten in the sun?
And I know red is higher priced, how much would it cost to switch it up to black? With metalflake? Thanks

It would depend on whether or not you are doing a custom job or simply a single new color but expect $2,500 to $5,000.
There are tons of web sites to check out, try www.airea5150.com

I happened to find a car painter that wanted to do a bike, and he gave me a real good deal even though the black paint was 150 a quart.....and now i will find me somebody that can airbrush to do the art work....then my painter will shoot the clear over it. and most of the airbrush guys will paint for about 50 to 100 a hour.....so i think total i will have about 1000 in my full paint job.

But the other guy that said 2500 to 5000 is right on the money the cheapest one i had was 2650.

Just my .02

If you want a red that will stand out use House of Kolors Blue Blood Red, it makes Viper red look orange. It will cost a little more as you HAVE to spray it over a white base but it will be worth it. The $2500 sounds fair, the touring bikes are a lot of work to spray and even harder to color sand and buff.

If you can get a good job for $2500, you're getting a good deal.... Most custom paint for everything on a dresser is closer to $5k. Shoot us some pix when complete.

To each his own, but I think those firefighter bikes are a beautiful color.

1. Who is going to dissassemble the bike?

2. How much prep work is the painter going to do before shooting color? (This will depend in part on the condition of the paint and tins on your bike.)

3. Is he going to shoot the inner fairing with a plastic adhesion promoter before shooting color?

4. Is he going to cover the color with clear and sand the clear to get rid of any orange peel? How many coats of clear will he shoot/sand?

I'm in the midst of a paint project now and I can tell you there is a helluva lot of hand sanding with 3M Imperial wet/dry 600 paper, and getting rid of pinstripes is a lot of hand sanding.

As for not painting the TP, my personal opinion is that not painting it is being penny-wise and pound-foolish. But my personal opinion isn't too good since I sold a perfectly good Ultra TP becaue I got tired of looking at it off the bike, but then bought new mismatched lid and bottom '08 Ultra TP parts because I "thought" I might want to have one in the future and I should paint the TP to match the new paint. I have and will paint my Mutazu aftermarket TP that's on an HD solo detachable rack and which saw much more use than the HD TP I sold.

Painting the TP will probably be about a $150 in labor plus paint cost if you dissassemble it. That's what I was charged for mine a few months ago.

Good luck with your project.
