Wild, it also helps to give the model and year of your bike when asking this information. For example, if your bike is an EG or RG, model years 2002-2006, it will have the cartridge in the left fork which is a different project than the newer, cartridge-less forks.
Depends on your bike. But do a search and you'll get some good poop. PM Darren, UltraKla$$ic, I know he did it and he provided pictures and complete guide on "How TO" He's a great guy, and I'm sure he'll help you out....

Good luck with your project.
Excellent point, Harleypingman. I have a 2007 Ultra that I got a good deal on as a salvage. I asked the service writer here at the dealer about changing fork oil. He told me it had a cartridge fork. Checking here and at my indy shop the dealer guy was proven wrong. No cartridge fork on a 2007. So don't believe what some guy that works at a Harley dealer tells you. That is sad and scary.
I'm surprised to hear that it's not that hard, I was going to let the dealer do it on my new 09.
Maybe I'll just do it myself.
Along with the painted inner fairing and passing lamps,,,, again.
