I just got a Mustang removable driver backrest kit for my 2009 streetglide. It is very nice, but it came with no hardware and no instructions. Is there anyone on here who has installed this and can tell me what I need? Do I just need a few 14"-20 thumb screws or do I need something else?
Any help is appreciated.
On my 08 it only came with one bolt and a clip that goes onto the frame for the bolt. This is used on the front. The rear bolts are removed from the bike and replaced to hold the back. When you take the seat off, you'll see the two bolts.

On my 07 EGC there were 3 mounting points...Two bolts on top of the rear fender where you remove the nuts, set the backrest down on the studs and replace the nuts. 3rd mounting point is a hole in the cross piece of the frame itself just behind the battery. You should have a clip and another bolt that came with the back rest. slide the clip over the hole, align the front leg of the backrest mount with the hole and screw the bolt in. mine is very secure, hope this helps.
I am thinking about getting the same backrest for my 08 EGC. Can anyone tell me how easy they are to remove and put back?
As you install you will see a screw on the back of the mount. It is spring loaded and if you play with the tension you'll hit a point where the back rest can slide up and down and stop at each grove in the post, maybe four or five height positions. It pops completely out when you want and leaves nothing showing. It will also fold completely down for you to swing your leg over and has about and inch of foward/backward adjustment.
I just ordered mine today It should be in early next week.
can't wait to try it out
You'll probably like it fine. I have my tension adjusted so I can reach behind me while riding
and move it up and down to get the right height . It moves easily but stays put at each at each groove. You'll feel a click when it engages each stop.
