Lots of good advice here. Towel/sheet on the ground is a good idea to catch small parts. I did mine. It took awhile but it was worth it

Had the dealer install after reading the posts. Got it back yesterday, caps and grips $130 plus tax! Bike was at the dealer to get the cruise fixed anyway so it was a good time to have it done.

I have done 3 and only broke one. Its a PITA but with some dilligence and patience its really not all that bad. I learned to lay my screwdriver on a old speaker magnet for about a hour before and it helps. Its so hard to find a magnetic thin screwdrivers and for a old speaker its a easy fix

I did mine a year ago. Took me most of an afternoon. Have since lost a cruise switch cap. Just today lost the radio volume switch cap. I have bought an extra set of caps. I used contact cement on the replacement cruise switch and will do the same for the radio switch.

I bought my bars with the chrome housings, chrome switches, and chrome levers/master cyclinder already installed and completely prewired. I didn't do the HCC bars but snagged a great deal from a dealer on eBay who did the setup for a customer but they backed out.

If I had a choice on it I would rather have the black switches. I think the black switches offset the chrome nice and is a nice contrast.

Nothing worse than when your 1 hour / $30 job turns into a 5 hour / $200 PITA!

I've put chrome button caps on 3 bikes, and, while tedious and "feeling" like I was going to break them, I didn't. LOVE the chrome button on black housing look.

With that said - went to do my 2012 FLHX button caps - and busted the left turn signal cap and then actually busted the right turn signal switch assembly!!! Threw in the towel, had dealership fix it up. That switch assembly was like $59 or something - plus the cost of labor to repair & finish the job I screwed up.

I doubt the caps changed in the last few years; I'm guessing my patience is just shot these days.

Same up here in Canada. I have an easy way to get this type of item (the switch covers, a certain bolt etc) I make my way around to the service department and slowly begin to talk to one of the techs. (they have all sorts of spare parts back there!!!
You'd be surprised what you get when you spread a little honey!!!!!
