It was an easy decision for me. At my age, I had no interest in the Street Glide with its lowered suspension and I didn't want to pay for stuff (like the tour pack) which I didn't want and had no use for as I already owned good, quality luggage and prefer to use it.

Spending hundreds of dollars (or $1 for that matter) on things you don't want or need might be an ok idea for some, but not for me.

The Math
Street Glide and Electra Glide Classic base MSRP = $18999
Electra Glide Standard base MSRP = $16999
Savings = $2000
Cost of chrome engine kit and Biketronics stereo = ~$1200
Total savings = $800

That's nothing to sneeze at in my book.

08 standard here. Purchased in aug of 08.

I LOVE it.

I got it for 15,800 bucks out the door minus tax. Crimson red. I added the missing gauges for free (dealer gift for referring a customer), I added the biketronics stereo (payed for by selling some parts I had lie'n around from my old bike) and a chopped tour pack I found on ebay for 500 bucks (brand new).

If my math is correct, I am WAY below anything else in the touring line and I have absolutely NO regrets about getting the 08.

My opinion is that the standard is an incredible deal.

I haven't had an issue with the polished covers yet. I just wipe them down with honda spray every now and then and I haven't had an issue yet. I probably will but I'll just add the chrome covers if that happens.

I think that silver motor with the chromed out kit and options looks great! And it's the best bike to buy in my opinion if you're going to go BLACK....

Thanks , if I had it to do all over again I would have used the Kuryakyn trans. side and top cover instead of the H-D kit. I have true duals and if you notice there is a open space on top of the side cover which looks like crap IMO! Would have been fine if I the stock header pipes!

I had the same problem on my 07. Fortunatly, my dealer let me exhange the kit for this:

Not quite as much coverage, but quite a bit cheaper.

How many? None so far.

I don't think anyone really interested in a tour pack and lowers would consider an FLHT and they shouldn't. I'm sure everyone would agree that buying an Electra Glide Standard to turn it into a Classic or Ultra would be a bad financial decision, but I seriously doubt too many people do that.
