I don't own a batwing but if I did, it would be a Standard. I've been tossing around the idea of buying an older one some day.

I don't think anyone really interested in a tour pack and lowers would consider an FLHT and they shouldn't. I'm sure everyone would agree that buying an Electra Glide Standard to turn it into a Classic or Ultra would be a bad financial decision, but I seriously doubt too many people do that.
When I bought, I really didnt want an Ultra or a Classic....just a Standard with cruise and a backrest. I knew about Biketronics and Hogtunes, and figured I'd add the radio/speakers later.

You're probably right....a bad financial decision, BUT....opinions and taste change. Im in the process of dressing mine as I want. First of all, I LIKE the silver motor better than the black. Due to my 'muddin' incident awhile back, (and with the help of GEICO), I now have the engine chrome kit and Mustang UltraTour seat. Ive added a detachable Tour Pak & all the trimmings including Spoiler and G Anderson relocater. My Biketronics radio kit and Hogtunes speakers (Pez's # 0914 & Hog Pods) are scheduled for UPS delivery TODAY...and from what Im hearing/reading....I'll be ordering fairing lowers and adding Pez's amp/speaker kit soon. LOL....GF said...."Ya might as well get the Rear Speakers too!!!". (more money comin' at ya Pez!!!).

Bad financial decision....PROBABLY! Getting what, how, when ya want? Ya cant put a price on that.

My .02 worth....

Thumbs up Love my 08 EGS

Actually went shopping for a 09 Street Glide ... when was offered the left over new 08 EGS for close to 5 K Less was a done deal ... Like Vivid Black anyway ... Since had it have done a Stage 1 with PCIII tune added a few Mods. Changed the Primary, Derby, Horn, Tranny and Cam Covers to Vivid Black Powdercoat also haved changed the Handlebar grips to ISO's and the Rider Footpegs for a better look then added a Detach Backrest and Tourpack also mounted Highway Pegs and quite happy for now... All this was done for 3K less than the New 09 Street Glide would have cost.. Am sure will be more to come but quite happy as it is now..

I bought an 05 EG police bike in 05. Since then, I have added a whole bunch of stuff not to mention the motor work. What I've told myself is that when I get a new bike way down the road, I'll get a Classic with all the stuff I put on mine already there. Yes, you may have to pay more but the simple fact that its there and good to go will be the selling point for me. Granted, I'll still have to make some changes to the motor again but all the other doo-dads will be there.

OK... I started off with a classic. It was a 2009. I was cramped when driving, but the ride was great. Smooth, nice power and did I say smooth. Wife liked the ride. Hated the bike. Hated it and hated it some more.

Then I drove a 2008 road glide. The wind was worse for me compared to the classic. The differences in the engine vibration were huge. The 2009 felt better with the bigger tire. Although the engine was more rocky at idle, the fit for me was better. Wife was not too hip to the look of the ride.

Then I drove a 2009 standard. This time the dealer put a tall boy seat on it for me. The ride was great. Smooth ride, good wind reduction. I liked this bike, and so did my wife.

Now, I will get what I want, she will like driving on whatever I get. But, if she likes it, that is even better.

So, I am going to sleep on it over the weekend.

Here are some picks.
