Does anyone know if you can and how hard it would be to put a springer front end on a Road King? Ever Done it?? Got any Pics? If you have done it how does the handling differ?
If you put a springer front end on a road king, would it still be a road king? When I look at one, the signature look is the front end with the chrome and the old fashioned windscreen. I just can't picture what your's would look like.
To answer the question "why?" Why not???? Im not saying I'm about to go out and buy a springer front end and try to put it on my RKC but the thought had crossed my mind as to what one would look like. I guess we should just stick to the PCV and Apes threads.
you will have to consider that the gooseneck on the RK is forward of the fork tubes. The fork tubes on the springer are forward of the gooseneck. If the springer front end will fit the gooseneck the RK will become a lot longer with unknown consequences. Handling may be slower and sluggish.

There is not a lot of weight difference between a soft tail springer and a RK. You probably could make a neat looking retro-FLH by doing this, I have my 03 Ultra down to the frame/engine now. There is a LOT of wiring in the front of the new bikes-both RK and FLHT, I'm not sure what you would do to hide all of that. The headlights that are used with springers aren't large enough to put it in. It would look cool but you would be basically building a custom bike from scratch (Almost). Do it and tell us about the deal. Gary
I've given this same idea some thought (actually, hoping the MOCO would bring back the Heritage Springer) and I asked a HD tech whether it could happen. He indicated there were too many structural (frame vs. springer) that would make it difficult without some major modifications to the neck of the RK.

If you can figure out how to do it, I say go for it. This is the joy of personalizing/customizing YOUR bike. However gabulldog made a lot of sense with the wiring. However, If you don't like it, you can always switch back.
I am always intrigued when someone wants to try something new. For example, putting the Tri Glides triple trees on a King to get the extra 3 degrees of rake. But, back to the springer question, my concerns would be the weight factor mentioned, not only the bike's weight, but also the possible loss of GVW for 2 up riding, and whether the springer front end would carry a massive enough look to fit the King.
