You need both. 3/8" for basic mechanical stuff.

A good friend of mine took my HF 1/4 and 1/2 to his work to check them for accuracy.

They have a calibration rig for torque wrenches.

He thought they would be way out of cal.

He checked 10 points on each one and found less than 2% off at all points.

Most were inside of 1%.

The 2% errors occurred in the very low settings.

So, I think the HF torque wrenches are fine for do-it-yourself wrenching on your bike.

I would like to point out that most of the torque value in your HD shop manual have a range, not an exact value.

My HF torque wrenches easily get me within those ranges.

Whatever you get, do yourself a favor and get BOTH the 1/4" and 1/2" wrenches.

Oh, and you might as well pick up a #27 torx socket. Most sets don't come with a #27.

The #25 almost works, but strips out the heads.

I wonder how I know that?

Got a Craftsman in/lb and a Lowes Rigid ft/lb TQ wrench. Bought them at different times. Both the click type variety. Both very nice. I recommend the click type. More convenient to use.
