Default Eitms

I had noted previously that after installing my new PCV, I was surprised by the strange idle until the bike was warmed up. Upon checking today, I discovered that the EITMS was enabled. I have never enabled this feature, so I presume someone else had.
Having disabled this feature, the idle from cold is rock steady and just what I would have expected.
I had presumed, that even when enabled, that this feature would only activate above a specific temperature. Naturally the Handbook is spectacularly vague on this point. Does anyone know just how this thing works and when?

Thanks

its not supposed to engage until the bike is stopped and temps are above 220.

Dealer probably will set enable unless specifically told by owner. EITMS only works when the bike reaches a specific high temperature range. It works in three phases: Phase I=ECM detecs temp above 300 degrees and reduces idle speed to reduce combustion events. Phase II=ECM detects temp still going up and richens mixture. More gas has cooling effect. Phase III=ECM detects temp getting higher still and skips injector pulse when stationary at idle. All phases should work seamlessly and not be noticed by rider.

When you say 300degs. Is that cylinder head temp?

Thanks very much for the info. I guess my suddenly calm idle must just be co-incidence.

Mine kicks in and is noticeable and is very noticeable when try to take off from a stop. It is almost like it is pinging with the noise that it makes.

Stang, does your bike idle normally when cold?

It idles a little high (like 1100-1200 rpms) but nothing out of the ordinary. Every fuel injected engine that I have had has done that.
