Default dino oil

just took my electra glide in for the 1000 mile svc.. The tech recomended regular old hd dino oil, until at least the 10k mark and so have several other harley mechanics I've spoken to. They all said that the synthetics were too slick and left gunk in the engine. anybody else ever heard this. sorry to beat a dead horse to death.

My guess is they still use a rotary dial phone and listen to 8 tracks and they are full of BULL!!! Bad information!!!!

Without getting into the oil thing. Synthetic lubricants are used in all the new Screaming Eagle bikes from the factory. Synthetic oil is state of the art lubrication. It flows better when cold, holds up better under very severe high heat conditions and lubricates better and will not form sludge.

Not going to get into another oil discussion, don't beleve everything you hear, check it out for yourself, get on www.amsoil.com or any synthetic oil web sight and read for yourself. I use synthetic in everything that requires oil, have for years.

You need to get the facts for yourself!!!

I've heard that it is to slick on an engine that is not broken in and I like to break in longer than 1000 mi. I changed over to synthetic at about 2000 mi. Never heard of the gunk thing.

Never had a gunk problem with the HD synthetic. Using Redline now. I wouldn't covert over to synthetic until at least 1,000 miles; just use the HD dino oil for the first 1K, and you'll be fine after that if you want to upgrade your oil.

The screming Eagles come from the factory with Syn3. How do they explain that? Go with a good true synthetic oil ASAP.

I've been running Mobil 1 VT 20-50 since the 1K service and I just did the 30K service. That's about 19 months of riding on my 07 SG. I change it every 5K miles. Change the other two holes every 10K and use Redline Severe Gear and HD Performance + in those. No problems!

Many of the Screaming Eagle guys also complain how they burn oil and I think its Red Line oil company that suggest waiting until the bike has 3000 miles before using their synthetic. The Corvettes come with synthetic and the GM mechanics tell their customers that burning a quart every 1000 to 5000 miles is normal.

On the other side, dino oil doesn't hurt the engine at all, so use it until you are comfortable, 3000 miles for me. Sludge makes no sense to me and 10000 miles sounds a little obsessive.

Think about this for a second. Oil is the lubrication of a motor, the whole purpose is to prevent wear between parts inside the motor. Why would you want an oil (other than a clutch that requires friction) to be less slippery? Isn't that the whole point of having lubrication.

If your motor is burning oil, its not because of synthetic, you have some other problem going on. There is no way that burning any oil in a new vehicle will be normal, not with the strict EPA rules.

Synthetic will cause your bearings to skate. I know it's a fact. I peeked out in my garage late one night and saw my bearings playing hockey with a couple of allen keys for sticks and an old o-ring for a puck.
