Never tried it, but I'd think it would be a serious PITA tryin' to work on push rods with the motor warm. The other methods mentioned will work, it's just that this one is the most accurate short of pullin' the rocker boxes & usin' measurin' tools. Keep in mind that you're dealin' with hydraulic lifters. All you need to do is get 'em near the center of their expansion travel. That allows them to expand or cushion as they were designed to do.
