Question headphone cables

I have a stock 08 Road Glide and I am wondering if anyone knows if you can put a plug in the tank console to hook up helmet headphones. I think they are common on the ultras. Am I right about that? I looked through the catalog but am somewhat confused. Every time I ask the parts guy/gals at the local dealer a question I get the feeling they are not very sure of anything. I also don't know much about how the helmet setup is done either.

If you look in the P&A catalog you will see that you could add a CB/Intercom console to the Road Glide. You would however have to have a tour pak, rear speakers, CB head, antenna, etc. and get the radio flashed by a dealer for it all to work the way it is supposed to. And yes, they are standard (common) on the ultra's. You essentially (with some cash) can turn your Roadie into an Ultra Road Glide. If your dealer "looks like they aren't sure of anything" then I'd go elsewhere where they could point you right to the parts in the P&A catalog that will give you what you want to do.

Thank for the input. I was hoping I could just use the outlet and plug a set of headphones in for the radio. I have no desire to have a CB or a permanently mounted rear setup like the ultra. I have and like detachables.

You can get all this setup and still have all detach options. I have the king tour pak with rear speaker pods and can still detach everything in just a minute for that clean look. Actually its more for cleaning as I never take the tourpak off. Like the storage and functionality.

OK but I just dont understand why they make it so complicated. I was thinking that I could just hook up the console kit ( which is 275.00 as it is) and then hook up headphones without going bananas and spending 1000 bucks on a radio. I will almost certainly just end up with an I-Pod in my pocket.

Why the rear speakers?

I've been considering the CB option on my SG since my buddy just bought his Ultra and we're planning some longer (week long) rides this season.

Ballpark quote of "around $1k" (as mentioned above) was pretty close, but no mention of requiring the rear speakers. Head unit plug-in module, console, hand controls, headset...that's it.

Am I (or the guy at the dealership who gave me the quote) missing something?

I was looking at this and wondering where the extra 750 bucks comes in

Communications Switch Kit

Allows the use of a Harley-Davidson® helmet headset on Touring models that are not equipped with the helmet headset interface. This kit contains Console Pod Assembly, Left-Hand Control Switch Assembly and Fairing Speaker Switch.

This product is available in multiple variations. Be sure to look for the one that fits the specific model and year of your motorcycle.
