Ok. Spelling issues aside, I think I described my concern so somebody got what I was asking! I'll have to give it a closer look when I install the new gasket. I wonder if one of the techs at headquarters would have some input. Might be worth a call. I was also thinking of taking the adapter plate along with the gasket to the service department and ask somebody there. I'm pretty sure if I asked five different people iI would get five different answers. I have found that the end users, us owners/riders/not in it for the money types seem to have a pretty good sense of what works and what don't. I welcome any other results folks have had with their gasket alignment. Thanks in advance.

I did acquire a new gasket that does have one side with the adhesive. I will be installing it this weekend. Hopefully, my problem will be solved.

For those who have installed the HD Premium Oil Coller, how did you align the gasket? Specifically, there is a considerable amount of rotational play in relation to the rectangular slots in the gasket and the two "ears" that stick out of the back of the adaptor plate. The gasket will stay within the round profile of the two mating surfaces, but you can rotate the gasket about a quarter ince either way.

Anybody?

the 2 nubs on th e adaptor go into the big slot. if you play with it you will see this is really the only way the small i.d (hole) lines up. then just have patience and use the adaptor nut to line it up. as i stated, i really torqued down on the nut. spec shows 12-16 ft-lbs and i went to over 20. may have stressed threads but think all is ok. i would have no problem going to 20 ft lbs though. so far no leaks but only have ridden about 10 miles but did get warm. (i am knocking on some wood as i speak)...ride safe

Installed mine a couple weeks ago and its been fighting me ever since. First install i tightened everything to recomended torque specs and it leaked like a mother. Tore it all back down and cleaned my gasket and retightened to my own torque spec and now i get just a very very slow leak. Sits for 4 days with no drips but does accumulate a tiny bit of oil just under the filter. SCSDRO where did you get the new gasket with the sticky back? I went to the parts store and got a DIY oil gasket sheet to cut out a new gasket as the instructions for the oil cooler say the gasket is "Not Sold Separately"

What are good alternatives? If the Harley cooler is pain, I'm sure there are other manufactures of coolers that would work as good or better. I've some in catalogs, but don't want to go with those vertical ones mounting to the down tubes.

Curious as to what others may have used.

Go to napa or some other auto parts store and get some gasket dressing sealant. If you have a good gasket and use this stuff, I can't see how it would leak. It is like very thin tar, and it will hold the gasket in place for you if you dont pull it around hard.

They are sold separately but ask the dealer to look under the CVO bikes parts catalog. About $5. I bought one when I had trouble with mine cooler leaking.

My premium oil cooler leaked a slow drip and I could not get it to stop despite taking it on and off about three time. Got a replacement gasket and also some Indian Head Gasket Shellac at Autozone-about $3 for a small bottle . This shellac is like and inky tar type of sealant which I put on both sides of the gasket. If I remember right you paint it on then wait a minute or so for it to set up a little. Fixed my leak. This stuff was recommended by the HD service manager where I bought my bike.

The Harley cooler is a good one. I would buy it again. As I stated in other answers here I had problems with a leak. I didn't put a torque wrench on mine and maybe that was the problem. As I remember that mounting nut, it tightened up pretty fast. Anyway when I used a gasket shellac it cured the leak. They say you shouldn't have to put a gasket sealer on but I would recommend it. It doesn't hurt anything to use it and with it you can be sure you won't have a leak.
