Anyone got any suggestions of rides or things to see or do in the Myrtle beach area. I'll be heading that way for the first time on vacation the week of the fourth of July.
Stay off of Hwy 17 between North Myrtle and Garden City[:@] Traffic is a bear that time of the year, at least in the afternoon when people are going shopping and out to eat. 17 North above North Myrtle up to Wilmington is a great ride. Several islands to check out along that ride. Also Garden City to Charleston would be a nice ride. Deer numbers are growing big time down in that area so watch out at night if you are hitting those areas after dark. Enjoy the vacation, I'll be down in Garden City during the 4th, even though I hate the week of the 4th at the beach, but that's how the timeshare landed this year.[8D]
Ride North to Southport and carch the ferry over to Fort Fisher. Nice little beach town. Ride south to Georgetown and have lunch on the river then go on south to Charleston. Great Greek food at the Ole Town on Meeting Street.
We have gone to MB for the past 15 years on vacation, although we've never been there for bike week. We love it. My wife and I were there in February and April this year.
MB to Garden City (Rte 17) is busy in the summer as indicated by Topper,...stay clear, that's good advice.
A good trip is out 17 toward Charleston....passing the the 'low country' as they call it. A great stop would be in Georgetown. Great views (especially the southern homes) and a nice restaurant is the 'Rice Patty' on the main street by the water. We had lunch there and enjoyed it.
Thanks for the note. We made the trip to Charleston in February....no bike though, a rental (4-wheeler). We had a good time. If we go back in April '06, I'll let you know. Thanks again.
If you can brave 17......and if you wanna do a culture thing.....Brookgreen Gardens is an amazing place. Down by Murrels Inlet. It is a rice plantation converted into a sculpture / flower garden . Take your camera.
