I'd go with the Ultra or Classic. You'll have the bags and you could even get the quick detach kit if you felt you didn't need them. I use mine all the time though both for long and short trips.
...I'm probibly one of the few that won't try to convince you to get what I own, I do a lot of group riding with the wife, and the CB and intercom were the main features along with storage needs that made me decide on the Ultra. I do wish I could have kept the Road King as well.
No, I'm kind of thinking he needs try a RK as well. I think it will suit his needs in every way he wants. He won't feel cramped and the wind isn't a problem.
Thanks for all of the replies. I guess I should have stated what I wanted it for. I want another bike with bags mostly for daily commuting. I'm sure I would eventually take some long trips but for now just everyday riding and being able to carry stuff with me. The wife doesn't really show any interest in riding so it is more for my comfort. I like my fatboy the way it is and do not want to put any bags or wind shield on it. I think I just need to keep test riding some bikes.
I now own a Ultra, but road a RK for 5 years, loved the King for commuting and it can also be taken on long interstate trips no problem.
You can buy a RK and make it look like a SG with a detachable fairing.
You can buy a Ultra and strip everything off it to look like a SG, (except fot the clown nose on the front fender) and find a place to store everything.
Or you can buy a SG and add what ever you may want or need.
As far as a RG goes, there is a reason why they may not make that fugly bike anymore.
Bottom line, only you can chose what bike works for you, try all of them out they are all great bikes (even the Fugly one).
I sat on the fence for almost a year. Could'nt decide between the Electra Glide Classic or the Street Glide. Finally chose the Street Glide and I am very happy with it. I love the clean uncluttered look, however when I rode the EGC, I found myself a little more comfortable and I like the floorboards better on the EGC. Either way they are both great bikes. Ultra or Street Glide, you won't be dissappointed. I also find the windshield on the Street Glide to be useless. Gonna go with a 8" 0r 9" Faistaire or Clearview.
Goodluck with your decision....
Can't go wrong with any of the Touring Models My Favorite is the Street Glide myself .. Only reason went with the EGS is was a left over 08 Brand new and almost 5K less than a 09 SG with a little work be surprised what can do with the EGS .. and still save money when bought it looked like this...
