My 08 Ultra was the smoothest HD I have owned until a few months ago.
My last ride on 2 wheels before having the bike triked was a blast. I was getin it. I downshifted to fly by a car and got on it pretty good.
I noticed a short time later I had a vibration in the handle bars. When I pulled into my garage, my bars were doing what you described. I also have a good vibration at 2000 to 2200 rpm's. I took it to the local HD shop.
Everything is normal? How can it be normal? If I had not ridden for 1000 miles before the vibration, I might agree with them.
I had to remove my Kruzer Caddy from the handle bars because of the shaking. My favorite beverage spills on my tank at idle.
Mine vibrates pretty good in the morning when I start it or at idle. The right side seems to vibrate more than the left. but as soon as I take off it all goes away. As the bike warms up the vibration is less. I think it's "normal" and don't give it much concern.
I had a guy replace the rubber mounts on my mufflers awhile back & noticed a whole LOT of shakin' goin' on after that.
I took it back to him.
He said if you get the bolts too tight on the pipes, it can transfer the engine vibration to the frame.
He loosened them a bit & it was a LOT better.
I guess that could happen anywhere the engine & the frame meet.
Mine is similar as far as the left handle bar shakes the most. I don't have the problem when the engine is cold but after it is warmed up. Idle rpm, warm ,is near 1000.
If this was happening when I purchased the bike, I would think it was normal. The vibration and shaking started at about 4000 miles.
MOCO can't seem to find anything wrong with it. I think they don't want to find anything wrong with it. They are trying to blame everything on the trike conversion. I have to keep reminding them that the problems started before the conversion.
I'm riding every day I can and putting up with it. I just hope something won't fall apart at 70 mph with the wife on the back with me.
For all the posting police out there, I am not complaining about my bike. I am trying to figure out what has gone wrong with it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I have noticed more shaking with my 08Rk since it came out of storage about a week ago.As my bike has the HD oil cooler is it possible that when the oil change was done by the dealer in the fall exess oil has not been cleaned up around the oil filter. Is there not an engine mount near or below the oil filter area? if there is oil there could it start to eat away or destroy the rubber in the mount making the bike shake more. Mybe I am wrong maybe someone will know.Thx
Truelly it is not really "normal" to exessivly shake. On my '98 RK I replaced the bars with wild1s RKII bars and changed the clamp from 2 piece to 1 pices and added poly-ururathane bushings in. I noticed a decent shake. Had another friend have a similar shake on his. Turn out to be the riser bushing being worn.
I would check the tightness of the clamps on the riser. If everything else is ok, I would go there first.
I have a 2008 EG Classic and it shakes ALOT at idle. Had everything gone through and it is what it is. The 2008 baggers are some of the worst shakers HD Corporate told me. They added another engine brace on the newer bikes and they shake much less at idle...drifter
