Gibby122,
Thanks for the 'yr / model' update...Hope you are successful in finding out what the problem is/was.
My purpose for asking was semi-related to the thread going on about the 09's having an oil leak...wanting to be sure there wasn't a major issue. :S (though 'any' issue with our bikes is really a major issue ! :S )
from the picture it looks like its coming from the oil filter housing itself. there are a few bolts that bolt the filter housing to the case...certainly could have come loose. They do have a "tab" on them tha tshould stop that from happening, but you never know.
thanks for the info... I'll make sure to check this out.
I was too much of a hot head yesterday to start workng on it, wouldnt have been a good idea. Although that was the 1st thing that came to mind and I did check it when I first noticed the oil. it 'felt' like it was on there but it was really too hot check properly. Ill check it again today after work.... never in a million years did I think they could work loose. I also thought there was some type of suction from the motor that helped prevent that... oh well. Im no mech... far from it. But i aint afraid to get dirty. Thanks.
Before you start yankin' parts, I would check the oil level and fill. Start the sucker and with flashlight and mirrors look for the leak...But that's just my $0.01

+1 clean it up. fill and watch for the leak. Check the filter first. I have seen a couple of posts about them working loose or just leaking.
Get some engine degreaser and clean everything up, add some oil and start it up. Get your self a good light and check everything around the filter area. Probably the filter but could be the housing to case O rings.
Relax, it's going to be easy to find with that much oil leaking.
Got it all cleaned up and started her up. Sure as $h1t the filter was leaking even though its still tight on there. I think the clutch cable may have tweaked it just enough for it to start leaking. Since I put 10" W1's on the bike the clutch cable kept slipping up under the filter. When the bars are turned all the way to the right the clutch cable was very taunt. I guess it finally took its toll on it, it even made a crease in the metal of the filter. I released the clutch cable from the 1 place it was anchored too, the nacelle. That gave it just enough extra length to where it doesnt get pulled up under the filter anymore. It doesnt hit or get in the way of anything. So, I guess now Ill just do a complete oil change and put a new filter on. Thanks everyone for your input.
