Im considering adding the color matched vented fairing lowers to my standard. Id like to ask about the bike's stability...especially in crosswinds? Ive tried the chrome fork-mounted lowers....didnt care for the 'jerking of the fork' they added...especially when passed by an 18-wheeler.
I like the looks they add....the idea of keeping the wind and water splash off my legs and feet.....also the option of putting Pez's Fairing Lowers Speaker Kit. Just trying to get some opinions of those "In the Know".
I dont think they make your bike less stable in crosswinds. They connect to the frame by way of the engine guard so no problems with wind. They will help a little to keep rain off your feet and extra speakers are always good.
We hit some 25-30mph crosswinds coming home from a trip yesterday and the bike handled great. You definitely know it's windy the bike just muscles right through it. When you've already got a tour pack, a fairing, and two people getting hit by a crosswind...lowers aren't going to change much of anything.
I've been riding Ultra Classics and now a Screamin Eagle Electra Glide for a lot of years so I don't remember what it was like to ride without them....except a hell of a lot more wind.
I put them on Terrie's 09 Street Glide and she loves em.....no complaints. She's already put 5k miles on and only had it since Nov.

Billy, where do you ride that YOU are being passed by 18-wheelers????
Maybe that's the problem; you are going too slow.
At interstate speeds, there is always going to be a "bow wave" of air being pushed by the big rigs and it will move a touring bike whether you are passing or being passed. Haven't ridden with the chrome deflectors so can't compare it to riding with fairing lowers. And I can't say that I've noticed much difference between my bike with and without the fairing lowers as far as stability is concerned. But I sure appreciate their protection and appearance.
