Hey all, as most of us like to do on this forum, just wanted to share my recent run-in with Drag Specialities.
Jan 01-2009 I ordered the Chrom Speaker Trim Rings. These are a Drag Specialities product. Well needless to say that wont stay stuck the the bike. They have fallen off several time most recently while going down the highway at highway speeds. Needless to say this is not the first time that they have fallen off, although they were never damaged. But of course this time they were since I was doing roughly 80mph when they fell off. Anyway I emailed Drag Specialities and was told that this is a common problem with them and that I should reapply them with a different type of glue to hold them on. I asked the rep if he would be willing to replace them since they are now scratched up and dont really look good on my bike and not to mention they cost me roughly 75 bucks. He replied back with a simple no we will not replace them. So then I was pissed and called Drag Specialities directly, and these people on the phone were even worse then the man I was emailing back and forth with. I wasnt sure at this point where I had gotten them from as I didnt have my receipts in front of me, and the woman on the phone told me that there is no way you ordered those from us we dont deal with people off the street we only deal with dealers and others wholesalers. I again informed her of my problem and she stated that she wouldnt be able to do anything for me and that I was more or less S.O.L. Well needless to say this made me even hotter and I wasnt sure which angle to do on this one... but I found my receipt and called the company that ordered these from (Chrome World) and they are willing to replace them. So at least the story ends good, but I tell you I think this is my last purchase with the Drag Specialities name on it... those guys are jags and have no customer service skills..... just my .02
ride safe, and make sure you double stick taped items are secured because Drag Specialities wont take care of you when their BS double stick tape doesnt stick!
This is probably why they don't deal directly with people off the street but just with distributors and retailers. Someone in upper management needs to tell them that the guy on the street is the ultimate purchaser and the reason they stay in business. Personal relations when it comes to many businesses in this country is going to hell.
you aint kidding! Not to mention have some customer service skills! I mean come on who owns a 20,000 dollar bike and wants crap stuck all over it with double stick tape! What a joke, although they look cool when they are on, but its hell keeping them on that for sure....
I bought them for my inner fairing.
I could see right off they wouldnt stick as they are attached to the speaker grill which is material. So thinking that to make it work it would be up to me.
I used 3M black adheasive.
Now they work.
Look great and yes I would buy buy from them again.
Clear silicone is your friend. I used it on all my fairing trim pieces because it is just obvious the tape would not hold. Why did you re-apply them after the first time they came off without silicone?
I know you had a bad experice with them, and I am sorry to hear that. But, I have had several emails with them and needed advice from them and they were great, provided me with info I was was searching and some tricks for installation. Very nice and prompt. I was eliminating the front air forks on my '98 RK.
I hate to hear you had such problems. I know it can be frustrating when you pay hard earned cash for something that doesn't work like it's supposed to. But I do think that if they had already fallen off several times without being damaged, you should've found a better way to attach them. You knew they were going to fall off again, you have to take some responsibility for the damage.
That still is no excuse for poor customer service from any company.
