Default HELP!!! Rear fender bolt broke

I just recieved my Steet Glide Rear fascia and was getting ready to mount it up on my 2008 RG. First thing I did was to remove the nut on the fender support right under the bottom of the fender to mount the plastic support piece. The bolt snaped, no big deal I thought I removed the HD symbol cover that is just stuck on and there is no head on the bolt and it is all painted over. I was thinking maybe therie is just another type of cover over the head of the bolt and they painted over it so I scraped around it to see if I could get it off and it will not budge. There is about 1/4 sticking out under the fender and I have tried to push it through and it will not budge.

I hope this is not some kind of stud that is some how welded on the fender.

This the the only bolt or nut that I was going to have to remove for this and IT BROKE!!!!
Now I am stuck and can not find anything on the board about this so I am posting hoping there is an easy solution for this while I go to Lowe's to see if I can find any thing close to this with an actual head on it. I have the nut with a few threads showing

Hope I get an answer while I am gone.

Thanks

I believe that bolt it splined and is a press fit...just like the bolts for the voltage regulator.

No worries, it'll take a bit of time...but it's fixable.

You'll need to remove the rear wheel to get where the bolt is.
Remove the support bracket that connects L/R saddlebag rails.
Take a utility knife and lightly cut through the paint around the bolt head...this prevents the paint from chipping.
Use a small hammer, tap that baby out from the underside.
I thinkkkkkkkk that bolt is a 5/16 x 18.
Replace it with a button head bolt...you may need a washer, too.

I have tried this with no luck...cleaned the paint around it and tapped with a hammer but still not budging and I am afraid I will dent the fender from the inside?

I got a couple of bolts to replace it and it is a 1/4 but maybe a finer thread but that does not matter because I got some lock nuts as well.

But I have been at this for an hour and it will not budge?

Will try try again and hope I do not dent it.

About ready just to put it all back together and take it to the dealer and just say it broke and get it fixed under warentee.........

This sucks and should have been so easy!

Anymore suggestions?

Any other ideas? I scraped paint for another hour and tried tapping it out to the point I am afraid I will dent the fender from the inside. I put everything back together and guess I will be taking it to the dealer to be fixed under warentee. I will just tell them that I heard something rattling and found it broke and tried to replace it myself and could not get it out.

If you have the wheel off, it doesn't take much more to remove the fender.
I would tape up the fender so you don't scratch it. Remove the emblem with fishing line. Then support the fender, center punch the bolt from the emblem side and drill it out using undersized drills till you can work the bolt loose. Replace it and put on a new emblem.

Man up and admit you did it. Next post will be about your stealer not wanting to do warranty work! If you got a decent dealer they might jump on it for free unless it is really f@#^d up.
