Cool Help - rear brake pad removal

I'm trying to remove the rear brake pads from my '06 Road King and the pad pins only seem to come so far out and don't seem to unscrew any further or pull out. Looking at the picture in the manual they seem to be only threaded at the top and the bottom. I'm thinking I don't have the caliper pistons retracted enough and they're hanging up on this.

Any ideas or tricks to get these off? I'm using a putty knife to try and retract the pistons but when I slide the putty knife between the rotor and brake pad it bumps into something, I assume the piston.

Any help is appreciated.

On my 08, it has a safety clip that has to be removed before the pin can be unscrewed all the way. I know the brakes are different on your 06 but you may still have a clip to remove.

The manual say's there's an anti rattle spring in there and to only remove one pad at a time as to not take this out due to it's a b!tch to get back in(I assume). Not sure if this is what you mean. My manual doesn't say anything about a safety clip so maybe the '08's are different.

Not sure but I think the pin has a small ridge on it. I think it is just stuck in the hole. Use your putty knife and push up on the bottom edge of the pad to relieve the pressure on the pin, it should come out.

haven't had this problem on my 03. loosen rear reservoir cover unscrew pins till it quits unscrewing then pull the pins out till they clears the inside pad, putty knife to press the pad and piston toward caliper. remove pad, put new pad in. push pins back in pump pump up brakes. pull pins all the way out make sure inside pad doesn't drop repeat putty knife on outside pad and piston drop outside pad in, push in pins tighten pins and reservoir cover pump up brakes done

You have to remove the rear master cylinder cover, and may have to remove a bit of fluid to get the pistons back into the bore.

Seems to be something like this. The pin has a little bit of play in it which means it's unscrewed but hung up on something and won't come out. Tried pushing up on the pad, but no luck.

I've had the cover off but I'd think you'd still be able to get the pin out even with the pistons out of the caliper. Not sure what the pad pin is hung up on.
