Question Has anyone shaved down their windshield?

The top of my windshield is right in my line of vision. I want to shave it down about 2-3 inches. Can this be done with a saw using a fine blade to cut it and then some sandpaper to smooth the edge?

Has anyone had this done by a shop? How much was it?

thanks in advance.

Did it myself with a jigsaw, a fine blade, and some painters tape..

Easy work..looks good.

Sanded down the edge with a palm sander when I got done.

Sweet! Thanks.

How did you make sure to the the curve even? Did you tape it off and draw a line on the tape to follow or set the jigsaw at an angle and go at it?

Same here, cut mine down two inched using a jigsaw, blue masking tape and sander. Made a template from the windshield and dropped it down 2" and marked.

After you cut and smooth the edge take some lacquer thinner on a rag, hold the windshield upside down so you don't make a drip and wipe the edge. I will look like factory then.

I've done it several times. First place some light weight cardboard behind the windshield and using a sharpy, trace the outline of your windshield onto the cardboard. Cut the transferred shape on the cardboard. Use blue masking tape to tape both sides of the windshield at the location you want to cut. Using the cardboard stencil, transfer the shape onto the taped windshield. I used a saber saw with a fine blade and cut the windshield while it was attached to the bike. It makes a bit of a mess so you may want to cover the tank and front fender. After the windshield is cut, I used 180 grit paper on a sanding block to smooth all the edges. I followed up with 220 grit followed by 400 grit.
Before I did any cutting, I placed a blue masking tape line on the windshield where I wanted it cut (roughly two inches for me) and rode with it to verify I was cutting in the correct spot.
Just try to be smooth with the saber saw and you shouldn't have much sanding to do.

We use a lot of plexi at the shop I work for, these guys sand with 400-600 grit and then take a butane torch and very carefully heat the edge (VERY CAREFULLY). The edge will get slick and clear of any tool marks. I did the edge of my factory cut, it looks so much better, cleaner.
