I have a Klock Works on my '07 SG, I love it. It directs the wind around me, I see over it and I notice NO buffeting. A bit pricey, but JMO, it's worth it.
Looking for a shield for a Road King, right? I ask because of your initial post, and some vendors mentioned only have shields for batwing (flht) and Road Glides.
Stock shield and I'm 6'0". I'm probably going to try a Clearview that is stock height, but has a recurve. I don't need the wind to move up much. It just barely catches the top of my helmet and rattles my head to the point of blurred vision.
Thanks. That's info I can use. The stock shield is 18 inches from the headlight cutout, correct?
I got an 06 Ultra I am 5' 10" and with the factory shield I either had to strain looking over the top of the shield or look through it. For some reason the shield cracked at the base and needed replaced I went with the 9 1/2 inch and love it and it still provides the protection I need on the road.
www.windvest.com. Have one and love it over the Clearview I had on the UC. They seem to get overlooked because of price? Between the Klockwerks and Clearview....
You want the windshield to be about even with your upper lip when seated on the bike. In this way you can look over it (and not be blinded in fog/mist or rain) yet still get good coverage.
PS: I'm 5'11 and the stock windshield on my RK is great.
Ideally, you want the windshield to be an inch or so below eye level, so you can both see over the top of the windshield and tuck down below it when you have to, like when a truck starts sending stinging road debris hurtling toward your eyeballs, or when God blesses you with dime-sized hail and abundant lightning.
You also want the windshield to have an aerodynamic shape. The stock RK tombstone windshield isn't very good at eliminating buffetting, if that's your goal. My buddy's 1997 Dyna Convertible windshield was way better at eliminating buffetting than my 2000 RK windshield, but it looked heinous. IME, windshield design is just as important as windshield height in determining how well the windshield deflects air around you.
