Default Ape hangers coming loose!!!

I recently had a set of ape hangers installed on my Heritage Softail Springer Classic and they wont stay tight. I have tried to tighten them several times and after a week or so they come loose again. Does anyone have any ideas that I could try to get these things to stay tight? I have tried Locktit and it doesn't seem to help. Thanks for your help!

Does the ape hangers have the ridges on where it meets the neck? I have heard several different remedies for this problem. One is using sand paper folded in half with the sand side facing the surface area between the neck and handle bars. I've also heard of people cuttng a strip of coke can and inserting the aluminum strip between the bars and neck. Maybe some others can chime in with better solutions. Good luck.

Rather than use a strip from a coke can, I think you would have better success using a strip off a beer can. Either one will work fine...I ended up taking the clamps off mine and grinding a couple thou off them to get a little more squeez on the bar...haven't had them come loose since.

Take a piece of 320 grit emery cloth, fold it over so that the grit is on the outside and sandwitch between the bars and clamp, works everytime.

Did you powder coat them? If so you will need to remove the powder from the bars where the "ridges" are at.

I thought that was for when the cops rode by, you could lower then to legal height while driving?

When mine started doing that, I just cut a couple pieces of a latex glove, like surgical gloves and wrapped around the bars at the clamp. Hasn't come loose since.

I have always pinned mine once I get them in the right position. You can either use a roll pin or allen set screw.
