Default decel popping

I recently installed the pc-v with an arlen ness big sucker purchased and mapped from fuel-moto. I am happy with the performance gains but the bike now pops on decel more than it ever did before, now I'm no mechanic but I've always been told that popping is a symptom of an improperly tuned engine, is this true and if so should I have the pcv remapped?

popping means the air fuel mixture is too lean, check the plugs if white and ashy then it's too lean, if any of the electrode on the plug is melted don't ride it until it's retuned or you'll soon be burning a hole through the pistons..

Also check to make sure your exhaust connections are tight. Mine was popping something bad and I checked the head pipe and sure enough they were loose. No more popping for me.

some of the decel popping can be fixed by adding fuel at the 0% throttle position, i did this and it cured the decel popping. As others have said, make sure all your exhaust connections are tight as well.

+1 on HDRiders comments. Here is a copy of an email reply from Dynojet. I ended up with +5 in the zero percent column of both fuel tables to solve the problem. This was on my 08 with PCIII, Big Sucker and Rinehart TD's.

DECELL POPPING
Decell popping is caused by the detonation of unburnt fuel in the exhaust pipe. This happens with high flow exhausts that allow more fresh air to be pulled into the pipe, causing the exhaust temperature to rise and detonate the fuel. Ways to reduce and possibly eliminate this popping are:

1. Block off fresh air injection systems. This will reduce the air being fed into the pipe, causing the higher temperature.
2. Adjust the fuel table to remove fuel during decell. Highlight from 2000rpm to redline in the zero percent column. Insert a –40 to –50 into the cells. Rev the bike and see if the popping has reduced or stopped.
3. If it is still popping try a +10 to +15 instead of the negative numbers. The added fuel will cool the exhaust so it won’t pop. But to much added will have anoticeable effect to the fuel mileage.
4. Do not do any changes at 1500rpm; this may effect how the bike idles.
5. Sometimes going to the ignition table and advancing the timing 3 to 5 degrees can help too.

I recently switched from a V&H Fuelpak to the PCV that I bought from FuelMoto on my 07 RKC. I had decel backfiring and FuelMoto had me change the settings in increments of 5 in the first column. I settled with +10 from 1750 to 6500 rpms and the bike runs great! no more pops or backfiring. The best it has ever run. Never could get the Fuelpak right.

Locodude, I recommend you email Jamie Long at FUEL MOTO - give him your configuration- provide range when you get Decel-they responded with a new MAP- loaded it up via the computer DYNOJET software- Mo Better.

Yep, my 03 with the older PCIII-R was the same, had to go +5 on the 0% position. No more popping.
