So do people stop swimming in the ocean when there is a shark attack? Just go to the beach. We all take some level of chance every day we get up and do something. I have been riding for 32 years and have no intention of stopping. Seen my share of stuff happen. I still swim in the ocean too. Ride safe. If you loose that little bit of fear or respect when you ride then park it.

Boy can I relate- yesterday I (for the first time) rode through the corner I crashed hard on two years ago- my heart rate must of been 2 hundred- and found it is a tough corner. Now I will drive thru that corner every time I ride. The point is- I had a bad feeling before that ride and the only way to get over it was to ride.

Nine people (7 year old included) died, 17 were injured Friday in Oklahoma when a semi truck driver didn't brake for a line of cars stopped on a highway waiting for another accident to be cleared. None of the vehicles the semi hit were motorcycles and a lot of folks still were hurt or killed.

I think we need to do the best we can with safety and staying out of harms way, but I'm at a point in this busy life where I want to smell the roses along the way. I want to enjoy the ride and I am always surprised how much I enjoy riding my SG. When I can't ride the bike, I still have a convertible with a stick shift.

How many of us buy the cheapest car with the best gas mileage to save a couple bucks a month? Yesterday as I walked back to my Vivid Black SG in the Target parking lot, one such car owner was standing by my bike giving it a good hard look. I'm sure most of us harley (StreetGlide?) riders can relate to similar experiences because that actually happens a lot. He got in his car and drove off as I got to the bike to load my stuff in my saddle bags. Even as hot as it was in Oklahoma yesterday, it was a good day to be me.

Life is short, make no regrets.

Default Defensive Riding!

You CAN NOT b 2 cautious when u ride!I'm 46 soon 2 b 47. I've been out there in the jungle since I was 16. Nothing has happened yet! It has happened 2 me when I was 12! On the back of my Brothers 3 day old Yamahammer DOHC 650,lite turned Yellow,he went thru it, car hit us head on about 50 feet from that intersection. He was turning left and he said he didn't see us. Took 6 guys to pull the bike out of the front of that old Nova! I can remember to this day seeing my brother POP straight into the AIR. He went over the car landed on the trunk and rolled off.First thing that I hit was the gas tank with my right knee then into the windsheild of the car with my head!Luckily the Helment Law was still in affect and mine was on! U-no the more I think about that wreck, the more I say to myself and to my Dumbass brother....U SHOULD OF STOPPED at that Yellow LITE!He could of! I couldn't walk for about a month. He rode the dam bike home!I got the cruiser ride home. So to make a Looooooooong story short, learn to be DEFENSIVE, learn ALL that you can! There is nothing that can compare to 2 wheels, going down the Hwy., at 60 mph! RESPECT IT! Cause ya never know when and where things are gonna happen! X-PECT the UN-XEPECTED. AND YOU'LL B FINE! Hope that Helps! I wont EVEN go into what my Little boy has had happen to him, learning how to race motox. He's only 10 and has been riding and jumping in the AIR on 2 wheels since he was 5! I need little blue pills with hearts in them that say roach 10 to watch sometimes. And I'm talk-n Dirt Ride-n! The Street is a WHOLE different Ballgame! LUV-YA-Man!

I thought I was the only one that occasionally gets a goofy premonition like "today's my day." I force myself to suck it up and go out when that happens. Better to ride than sit at home on the computer reading about random tragedies. I do worry about taking my wife on rides and making the kids orphans.

Turn that "negative feeling" into something positive and let it make you that much more aware and safe. Ride defensively and refocus on the skills you have learned in MSF courses. To be honest, I'll bet we ALL get these same feelings once in a while. Stay practiced and keep your skills fresh is about the best thing you can do.

When your time is up there's nothing on this earth gonna stop or prevent it. Ride on and enjoy it while you are able.

The thing about that accident that really sticks with me is 2 of the riders killed where a married couple with 2 kids at home. That weekend alone we had 9 bikers killed, all by no fault of there own.

Not sure why I posted this I guess I am thinking outloud with some fellow bikers. Ride safe. Al
The good part is that you're thinkin' about it. That goes a long way to keepin' you safe. I'd rather ride with someone sensible enough to face the worry than someone cocksure of themselves & not concerned with what they're doin'.

Yep get that feeling everytime I read this forum, but have decided long ago if my number is up, its up. Besides what a way to go, better than laying in a hospital bed waiting to die eventually. Only better way to go would be having wild sex with a 25 year old hottie just after a ride and stroking out, would like to go out doing that while riding but might hurt someone else.
