This is one of the best threads I have read on a forum. This unspoken subject hits home for so many of us. All the replies are spot on. Thanks to the OP.
Thanks everyone, sometimes its good to think outloud, just so you know your not alone. Its like last yr I got rearended at a stop light when the guy thought the light turned green he hit the gas, after that all I could do is constantly look in my mirror for about a month.
This to will pass, besides nothing can top that worried feeling when my wife started to ride, if I got over that I could beat anything. Ride safe and many thanks . Al

+1 on that. I was the same way when my wife first started to ride. I was constantly looking in the mirror to make sure she was still back there.
Not trying to be a smart a$$ here , but life is DANGEROUS! I know because of a really BAD experience. Be as careful as you can be, listen to your "gut" feelings, but ENJOY your one life. It is so very short at best!
Was the oldest left in my Family at age 51 ... Life is too short to dwell on possibiles .. Might be the Bike, Might be Cancer, Might be a Heart attack that takes me down but to fear death is to die 1,000 times that simple ...
Had a motorcycle accident last summer. Bike was a total lost. 5 days in hospital. Really didn't know if I wanted to ride again. But finaly decided I wasn't going to put an end to what my wife and I love to do. I've been struggling hard to put aside what happened. Still have difficulty beeing the first rider in front. When with other riders, I ride second. Each time I see an on coming car flashing to turn left, I stress a little, afraid is gonna cut me off like when I had my accident. What I realize thought is that the stress is less and less present the more I ride and I beleive that with time it's gonna go away. Like others say, the cure is to ride and ride and ride. A few years ago, a guy was in is back yard taking sunshine, reading the newspaper. He got killed by a rock that fell on him after a company had just dynamited near his home. So like someone said in this thread, you can die doing nothing. Ride, look how beautiful it is around you and enjoy life.
I've had those same feelings before but have continued to ride. Each time a friend or even an aquaintence is killed or seriously injured on a bike it bothers me for weeks or even months. But then I start thinking: I've known a lot of folks in my life that have been killed or injured in car accidents and haven't ever considered selling my cars. I figure my number is already written in somewhere and so I might as well do the things I enjoy and try to put the negative feelings out of my mind. Like Jay Stronghawk says: "to fear death is to die a thousand times". I think I choose to die only once.

Interesting... I am gonna die twice... ive already gone once and actually it was several times according to the doctors... So they gave me the chance to do it again! I prefer to wait a while though..
