I switched to heritage bars and did not change any cables, they work well for me.

Police bike bars are the exact same dimensions as the Heritage Bars--Heritage bars are a little cheaper, but the police bike bars (56902-08) already have the TBW notch in them . . . the Heritage bars (56623-99) have to have a notch cut in them for the TBW . . . neither set of bars requires a cable change on the Road King. If you have TBW, consider paying the extra few bucks . . . if not or you are good with grinder, save a few bucks and get the Heritage bars. Most people seemed to like the heritage bar size on the RK if they are not happy with stock. But, mini apes are fun if you are upgrading cables.

Installed the Hertiage bars right after buying my RKC in 2000, the best mod i have done to the bike as far as comfort goes.

I just ordered the (56902-08) Heritage bars $70 or so for my 98 RK are there any rubber bushings that I should replace while I have the bars off?

Thanks

I switched to 12.5" fat internally wired apes. I like them, but I'm probably going to go with 16 or 18" apes soon.

Just had new "Heritage-style" bars installed last week after experiencing elbow and neck pain with the stock bars. Much better pull back for me. Took a 250 mile trip to Leavenworth, WA (beautiful Bavarian-themed town). No pain!! Takes no cable change and has a look and feel of baby apes. And the price is right. It's about a 1.5 or 2 hour job for a decent wrencher. Highly recommend.

I put the Heritage Style bars on mine as well (56902-08). What a difference!!!! Followed up with some floorboard extensions and life is GOOD!
