It shuts off the "parade" mode when the clutch is squezzed and when the throttle is moved. Also at least on mine it seems to idel "lumpy" like having a lumpy cam. I have never stalled it. I also have not noticed a smell but I could believe that there would be one.
Guys, do a little searching and read up on this, lots of posts on the subject. If you don't notice a difference I suggest you study engines a bit better, when you start hitting on one cylinder you should be able to tell it has changed, if not, wow! It's going to maybe have a slight difference in smell, it's pumping air through a hot cylinder, although doubt you would notice in downtown traffic. Not to be rude or anything but no new bike makes the potato sound, if it does you might want to crank up the idle and get some oil to your engine, those days of sound are long gone unless you happen to own a classic ...... or TWO!
There is definitly a distinctive sound when it goes in this mode, sounds like a single cylnder (which for the moment it is). I havent had any issues with it but was thinking when I put louder pipes on that really isnt going to sound to cool...... So far it is a seamless transition, just a real sound change, kind of like the guys who put loud exhaust on the dodges and chevies with the cylnder drop out, they sound like sh#$ when it changes..........
The only differences I have seen is the oil pressure goes to almost nil and I tend to stall more leaving a stop light.
When the light changes, give the throttle a quick little burp before letting out the clutch; this will take it out of the EITMS mode (wake up the engine) and eliminate the stalling.
I thought that was just me! I noticed an odd smell too, but didn't believe that the smell came from it because it was just hitting on one cylinder! Glad to know I'm not crazy!
Jeff,
It is JUST YOU not your bike, JUST YOU that smells!
If your engine sounds pota-pota-pota-pota-potato-potato-potato on re-launch, then you are not waking up the rear cylinder before launch, which is not only hard on the engine but also could be dangerous if you have accelerate quickly to avoid someone hitting you!
