The primary has it's own supply of fluid - look for a plug at the base of the primary case, just below and to the rear of the outer primary cover.

Here's everything you need: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/5027544-post2.html

Note that there's a second primary drain shown that you open with a 1/4" allen.

the 05 primary plug is well hidden. i did an oil change on a friends 05 roadking. it's not underneath the lowest part of the bottom of the primary. the plug actually is at the lowest part of the primary cover right below the derby cover. it uses a smaller o ring than which you use for your engine oil and transmission oil drain plugs. the plug is sorta small, and it is between your two lowest primary screws, it points out toward the left of the bike rather than pointing down like the newer models. it's pretty well disguised as another primary screw. but it's there. be sure to replace that small o ring that it takes too. harley parts counter will know exactly the one you need.

Yep, it's a good one. I printed it out and stuck it inside my service manual way back when. I just referred to it last week when I did a full transfusion.
