I helped a friend on his '08 electra-glide classic put the chrome switches on, but on the clutch side i seen a button that pops out when the clutch is pulled. What is this a neutral starting switch and after the clutch side is when the alarm light stayed on. does anybody know about this?
Its probably the clutch interlock switch, probably broke when the housing was changed out . They seem to break pretty easy. A quick check is if the bike only starts in neutral, its the switch. You can get the code to know for sure but I don't remember how to do it. Sorry i could'nt be more help.
Look through the "sticky's" in the "Engine Diagnostics, Alarm, and Fuel injection issues". There might be something there to tell you how to get the trouble codes
I have a 08 EGC, less than 9000 miles, problem started out with a false neutral light while in any gear, then the cruise wouldnt work and finally my alarm light came on. The lights would come and go and some times flicker. The dealer finally found frayed wiring inside the fairing, said it was tight crossing over the radio. That was some seven hundred miles ago without any problems since.
The "rest of the story" as they say was the dealer called Harley Tech support or what ever they are called and was advised to replace the entire transmission/ case, can you imagine the look on the techs face after they replaced the tranny and the problem still existed!! I wish I had been there, then they found the bad wiring.
Up till then I thought a Harley service department would be better than any other make but I lost all confidence after that, not to mention how I felt my new ride had been taken all apart for nothing!
