Default gonna swing by HD in a bit

Looking to dump my shadow and get into a Road King or the like. I need something bigger. The shadow is pretty big, but at 6-1, it feels small now.

Any suggestions? Just gonna check them out and get some prices. When did most of the new features come out- '08 or '09?

Also, with the new engines and EFI, will it sound like a harley after some pipes? The stock ones I've heard sound pretty lame.

Get an 09, you should be able to pick up a good deal with the 2010's rolling in. Good luck.

Fuel injection won't affect the sound negatively. IIRC, the sabre is a dual crankpin bike, so anything harley even with stock exhaust should have a better sound. Pipes can always be added for more oomph. The HD will have way more torque than your shadow, but don't expect it to be faster off the line or more nimble. It's gonna weigh a lot more than your shadow.

If you want to do long distance riding, don't neglect to look at the glides as well. Once you have all those amenities even on medium length rides, it's hard to go back.

Some HD dealers will take metrics in trade some wont. I don't know if you're wanting to trade. Don't expect anything above wholesale blue book for your trade.

Good luck.

'09 for sure as the deals will be there now that the '10 models are out. You'll really like the RK or or one of the Electra Glides - very comfortable and ride like a dream.

i had a 04 shadow and bought a 07 road king classic last year. i love the bike and just put on rineharts a couple of weeks ago and the sound is awesome. the road king although a few hundred pounds heavier is better balanced the the honda was and i can throw it around and manuvere in tight turns a lot better than i could the honda. it has way more power and just over all a lot nicer to ride.
having said that, i do notice the heat that this thing produces and they r noisy( engine and tranny) which they say is normal, 1 other thing i found took a bit of getting used to was i find i have to hold on the gears a lot longer on the harley than i did on either of my honda's but it comes in time getting used to the bike and what it wants in terns of engine revs.

i am very glad i made the move and i'm sure you wont regret it.
good luck.

Well, I went and looked. The soft tail heritage caught my eye in addition to the road king. They let me take both for a ride. My impressions:
heritage:
+really liked the stock seat
+riding position was very positive, felt like i was in the saddle
-felt slow
-too smooth
-felt kind of cheap

road king:
+braking was rediculous
+power felt better than the heritage, despite being heavier
+felt very nimble for the size.
-stock seat position sucks
-no sissy bar stock
-handle bar position too low as well.

I know I can fix those last three pretty easy. I think the road king is my bike. I don't care for the fairings that the glides have because I think they look like an old mans bike, I am 27. I also don't care for the white-wall tire, but the dealer said he could swap with pinstripes instead. My last complaint is the chrome piece at the bottom of the front fender...it looks cheaply made imo.

Now, I just gotta sell the vette so I have the cash. They do take metrics on trade, but as I figured, offered me less than I was willing to let it go for (plus what I owe on it). Despite being a larger engine, the honda is quite a bit quicker off the line. It's gearing is pretty aggressive for in-town riding. In turn, it blows on the expressway.

Shopping experience:
The salesman said he just started a couple weeks ago and it showed. I don't see him lasting long because he didn't sell me the bike. He wasn't sure about a lot of stuff and the other salesman took over answering my questions and helping me. I guess he figured that the bike would sell itself to me. He also did a lot of Honda bashing which wasn't too tasteful imo.

When I got my RK I changed out that cheap piece of tin on the front fender right away. It did look cheesy. Difference between the RK classic and standard is basically hard bags on the standard and thin white walls. I think the classic still comes with cruise. You'll be happy with a RK.

Price of bike is $18,000+ 400 for color and 400 alarm. He said he will give me 1000 off the bike and the 500 setup for free. Roughly 19500 with 5.5% tax. Thoughts? How much is to be expected to take off a new bike? I guess their 4.9% rate ends tomorrow as well.
