Default Ignition woes

Went to Maine this weekend on the scoot. About 10 miles from home headed uphill two-up and fully loaded, crested the hill and went to throttle the bike and nothing, no throttle! WTF! Look at the gauges and the tach and speedo and whatnot appeared as they do when you shut the bike off. Coasted down the hill to the side of the road with the bike still idling, shut it off and turned it back on and all was good the rest of the way there. At first I thought it was a throttle sensor issue, but the next day I had another issue that led me to believe it was not. I was tooling along and my radio quit and my Zumo stated "external power lost, continue on battery power" that it does everytime you shut the bike off. Therefore, I knew that it was an issue with the ignition switch or wiring. I wiggled the ignition switch while I continued riding and viola, the radio and Zumo came back. There have been a few times where I hit the switch to start the bike and get nothing. If I do the same wiggle of the switch it then works. About a year or two ago I thought I had a starter issue, but now am thinking it's been the ignition all along. Now I gotta figure out if it's the switch itself or in the wiring. I want to figure it out prior to my warranty expiration which is Aug 19th.

For an update, last day of warranty is today. They ordered me a new ignition switch. Also got the ABS download done today. Happy camper so far. Ride home with the download the brakes seemed to be more responsive going over bumps and whatnot.

My bike did that when it was brand new, in fact the first time I tried to start it when I got it home..........nothing.........wiggle the switch and it started. I can't count how many times it happend after that. Now with the bike coming up on 3 years old in January, I can't remember the last time it did it. Go figure.

dawg, it is scary when you have a problem and do not know what to do!! So many of us depend on people like you on this forum for answers to our problems. Thanks for all of the help you have extended over the years here on HDForums. I hope that the new switch fixes your problems.
