You're assuming you have to use a kit (which requires pulling the connectors). You could, instead, just snip and solder your own extensions in. The correct guage qire at the auto parts store and shrink wrap at Walmart cost less than $10. Here's my DIY bar swap in case any of it could be of use to you: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...e-install.html
You still have to pull the connector ends to be able to pull the wires through the handlebars.
taking the connectors abart is a breeze - I have done it so many time, I could do it in my sleep... I am guessing you will not have any problems, get the service manual and if you do need some help... PM me and I will give you my home number, I can talk you though the connector over the phone... its that simple...
I did mine on my 08 SG and 1 thing I would add it to take a dremel or something simillar to smooth out the edges of the internal wiring hole in the bars. Don't ask me how I know.

Not so. You cut above the connectors at the bottom end (in the nacelle) , solder your new wires at the "new" top end of the wire, run them through the bars, then solder back to previous connection points. Just label your new wires (before running thruogh bars) with the appropriate colors to make mating easier.
Thanks for the replies, i am pretty handy so i do believe that i am going to attempt this. I may wait till winter so if it does end up taking a bit longer it wont cut into my riding time!
The bars I installed had more rise and pullback, and the wires were too short to run internally. I had 16 wires to cut, extend and heat shrink wrap. I did my install last Winter, but only took a few hours and a few cold beers. You cvan try and tackle it one rainy day.
