Default Road Glide fork swap - labor cost?

I'm getting all my ducks in a row for when I order a new road glide. One of the things I have a question on is the cost of swapping out the stock forks, for black ones.. both the lowers and uppers.
Those of you that paid H-D to do it,.. what was that cost? I called my local shop, but they weren't to excited about figuring all the labor costs. Im weighing if its worth my time to do it myself, or just let someone else do it. The actual forks themselves are pretty cheap. I have even considered just buying chrome Kuryakyn covers for both, painting them black and installing them. I would be happier with the actual forks being back though. I'm also considering just painting the stock ones while they are on the bike since I dabble with painting.

Powdercoating is the way to go. No paint will be as chip resistant. The labor involved is not too difficult, especially if you have the factory manual. Ask if you need more help.

Does the fairing on a Road Glide have to be removed to install a chrome front end?

I don't know how your dealer is, but the dealer I go to does a poker run inside the dealer when you buy a new bike. You go from to all the departments and draw a card. Once you get your hand you get a disount and that is good for all accesories, install and clothing. I know of other dealers that will give you a discount as long as you get the parts when buy the bike.

It should be about 3-4 hours of labor at your dealer.

No, you do have to remove the nacel which has the speedo and tach to swap the forks out

Thats good to know. In that case, it might be something me, a few friends, and a case o' bud light can handle on Saturday.

As for the powder coating instead of paint.. nice argument, but I don't tailgate people and paint has always held up fine for me in the past.

I've been on the fence about doing mine, but after seeing the pictures of your trike with the black front end I'm convinced. That looks awesome! I also have the Mirage Orange Pearl paint.

I did have my local Harley price the parts and it was about $425.00. The service writer was too busy to give me a price on the labor at that point. Poor service loses my business.

If you have the time, tools, shop manual, parts book for reference and the desire to do it, its not a hard job to do. There is a write up from another member about changing fork oil, which in my opnion is the slowest part of the job.

I need to update what the trike looks like now with the gloss black powder coated engine covers, trans, cam, and primary covers. Its a sickness once you start.....LOL

Hell yeah man, get some pics up!! I wanna see what she looks like with a lot of black.

As for the forks, I talked to a friend that said he has done it and its pretty easy. So thats good, that gives me more money to buy black parts with!!
