Coming up on 10K and have had no problems. Did a 117 kit from GMR earlier this year. Going from a stock 96 to a 117...WOW, major kick in the pants. Love my bike....Ride safe.
I've done the se slip ons, stage 1 intake with the down load from dealer, synthetic oil plus oil cooler.
Well its been 25,000 miles and no issues. I have the dealer take care of the fluids since i paid for the VIP service. Its one of those things that has paid for itself, they pick it up ,do the service, wash it and then return it to me.
I did buy the extended warranty and its paid for itself already. they replaced the strator boot because it was leaking. So all new! The work order came to $1400.00 I paid $50!
I went to Canada and back last summer with no issues at all!
I'm very happy with bike!
My 2007 Road King (flhr) has 8300 miles screaming eagle 103 kit with sert rineharts hi flo 255's dyno tuned IDS and tons of chrome plus hd premium oil cooler run syn 3 all three holes changed every 2500 mile. I couldn't be happier with the performance and reliability. I have no wobble original throttle cable no whine and the hottest it has ever gotten was 243 degrees on a 95 degree day during a stop and go pow mia run. I've been riding bikes since i was 15 and i'm now pushing 54 and i have to say this the best bike i have ever owned and i have owned over 15 different makes and models.
April of '07 = RK w/Stage 1 (SEAC, PC-III, and V&H Ovals). Added IDS and EVO crank sprocket later - at about 23K miles now - only small... make that very small chit to complain about.
My 1st IDS (dealer installed) died in less than a month but dealer stood tall, said "that shouldn't have happened", and replaced it free.
Last week my kill-switch crapped out (warranty gone now) so I bought and replaced myself.
Tires (went to E-3s) and brake pads (went to Lindalls Z+) but those are just like oil (Syn in engine and Redline in the other two) and filters, cost of doing business.
That's it - real good scoot IMHO.
ETA Kieth, OP - I put a set of the Kury "chrome" (actually plastic) heat shields on mine and even here in FL summers, they work fine. Since mine do good for me, I guess any vendor choice would too.

My wife & I just got a 07 ultra with 10k on it. On a recient trip I experianced a lot of pinging and heat. Has anyone else had this problem. Bone stock ,use 91 octane cool temps no problem 85F and up with sustained freeway gave the bike pinging where I was hard pressed to maintain posted speed limit 65mph 5th at about 2800rpm w/o a lot of predetonation.

You need a Fuel Management device like a SERT, SEST, or TTS Mastertune. (I went with the TTS and I'm happy with it) Followed up with a good dyno tune. All HD's come out of the factory too lean as was mandated by the EPA.

I had the same problem. I had a PC3, RH TD's and after market filter, never had a tune though. I think having a good tune would solve your problem. The PC3 made the bike run cooler but without a tune and using a canned map, it just wasn't quite dialed in. If you repost in the maint section or do a search on the subject, you'll get lots of opinions. I would suggest something like a PC3 and a tune. Good luck....
I've got 10,000 on my Ultra Classic and just finished a 3,000 round trip on it at the end of August. It's pretty much stock and I think it's a great bike! Anything is hot here in Florida, it's running great, comfortable as all get out, and gets great mileage. If I had it all to do over again I would. I love my bike! I never run anything less than 93 octane in it. I only use Shell, Sunoco, or BP in it. 91 is too low, at least the crap they sell here in FL is.
