I had mine installed at the HD before I took it home. I know if you're not careful the inside of the lids hit the screw heads that mount the 4 point docking hardware.

Ding ding ding....We have the winner! Even though this is an old thread, I thought it worth mentioning again. The other day while my saddle bag lid was open, I noticed a spot taken right down to the black coat. I then realized that every time I open my saddle bag, the inside lid edge contacts the forward most 4 point docking hardware screw. No matter how careful, pushing the lid top in slightly to unhook it before opening the lids pushes the lids inside edge into the screw. I touched up the spots, polished them and installed a new piece of 3-M paint protection film on the lid edge in that area. Crappy initial instructions led many to fumble as to where to put the little square pieces. I have absolutely no doubt that this was the intention.
