Was talking to a Harley salesman, said there is speculation they will put the Vrod engine into the Road Glide in 011 or 12. Anyone hear anything like that? Not sure what to think about it. Almost double the HP but no low end TQ.
i think they'd be making a huge mistake to do that. the v rod revs like a gazillion rpm's at hiway speed and has not anywhere near the tractor torque that the big twin has. face it, the vrod is a similar sized motor to a sportster. they're bound to bring out something that will appeal to someone, remember, they did bring out the v rod, and it's the redheaded stepchild of harley. i'd much rather see them go with a motor similar to the rocket III, now those things are really rockets. ridiculous amounts of torque and horsepower. and smooth running.
As conservative as HD is and the time & money they have invested in the V-Rod engine I can't imagine them not using it when they DO make a water cooled touring bike, I'm sure that with the guys at Porsche doing the design work on this engine they can get the right HP/Torque for a big two-up tour bike. They will only do so when they can't meet the fed's emission guidelines. Just my take, until then two or three time a year we will hear rumors.
I've seen them, lousy range with that tiny tank. Think I might start looking for an 09 RG just in case it's true. Or pick up a used RG fairing and put on my 07 RK to see how I like it and a lot cheaper than new. Got a batwing on it now, huge improvement over the windshield, but don't care for the little front end dance in the high speed sweepers.
