Always been a RK kinda dude but now I'm considering a Street Glide. Only problem local Harley dealer won't let me test drive one (fokkers) and none of my buds own one.
I was wondering how do they drive? Do you still get a lot of wind on the face? One of my buds said only old farts drive them, after I kicked his azz he changed his mind.
I'm 36 so I guess I am over the hill. Yes you still get wind in your face (7 inch windshield) but it's mostly coming from under the fairing. There is a big difference between my 06 Deuce and my Street Glide as far as the wind in your face.
I came from an 02 Road King to my SG. I loved my RK but mileage wise I was at the point where I either sell it while it was still worth decent money or plan on keeping if for a good while longer. I chose the former.
Initially, I was disappointed with the ride and performance of the SG but I also kept in mind that I had the RK for quite a few years before I got it the way I wanted it. I now have the SG the way I want it and it is a great motorcycle but there is a part of me that misses the RK. I loved, while riding the RK, being able to look at that big headlight and the front of the bike. If the RK's didn't have the funky pin strips and tank decals I might have stayed with a new RK and opted for a detachable fairing. The fairing on the SG is ideal for year round riding around here and of course the tunes are great.
Don't take anyones word for it. Find a dealer that will let you test ride and see if you like it for yourself. There are plenty that do. I'll be damned if I'm gonna spend that kind of coin without trying it out first.
Never heard of a dealer not allowing test rides. I'd buy from another dealer if that's the case... and let him know it. You can still use them for service if they are the closest to you.
Not only no test drive, the sales dude freaked out when I sat on it.
I just got off the phone with another Harley dealer, they told me not only can I test drive any bike they have I can also take it home and show the wife and keep it over night (WOW)!. Looks like they are getting my business even if their shop is 20 more miles from my home.

Now that is customer service! Harley dealers usually don't let you take the bike home. If they will let you have that much seat time and time in your possession, take them up on it and if you do buy it, get it from them.
I love my 09 Street Glide. Best bike I have ever owned!
Let us know if you buy it and please please please let us know what deal you were able to get.

"take it home and show the wife"
He is either the SMARTEST salesman or the DUMBEST.
I rented one from my dealer and put about 250 mile on it on a Sunday.
They credited all the rental back when I made the deal to buy a 2010 SG.
I have no regrets and have not looked back.
